There is a fourth option that is not a plan: a private instance. We deploy and operate a dedicated instance for one organisation, against a PostgreSQL database and object storage you own, your own AI provider key, and the region you specify, with no scan limits. It is quoted per engagement rather than listed here, because the price depends on what the deployment has to satisfy.
What is actually metered?
One thing: receipt scans, meaning documents sent to the AI for extraction. Everything else is unmetered on every plan.
- Invoices created and downloaded do not use scans, and are not capped.
- Users are not charged for. There is no per-seat price.
- Editing, categorising, searching and filtering transactions cost nothing.
- CSV import does not consume scans — there is nothing for the AI to read.
- Exports are unlimited on the plans that include them.

Is there a free plan, and does it need a credit card?
Yes to the free plan and no to the credit card. The Free plan is CA$0 a month, covers 15 receipt scans and keeps 30 days of history, and includes the invoice generator with no cap and no watermark. You create an account and start.
Are the prices in Canadian dollars?
Yes, in CAD and charged in CAD. There is no conversion at checkout, so the amount on your card is the amount on the page and it does not move with the exchange rate.
Do you charge per user?
No. Plans are priced on receipt scans per month, not on seats, so adding a second person who occasionally uploads a receipt does not change the bill.
What counts as a receipt scan?
One document sent to the AI for extraction. Creating an invoice with the invoice generator does not use a scan, and neither does editing a transaction you have already scanned or importing a CSV.
What happens if I go over my monthly scan limit?
Scanning pauses until the next monthly reset or until you move to a larger plan. Nothing is deleted and the rest of the app keeps working — you can still create invoices, edit transactions and export.
Is the invoice generator included on the free plan?
Yes, in full. Unlimited invoices, no watermark, GST, HST, PST, QST and VAT lines, any currency, and PDF download. It is included on every plan including CA$0, and making an invoice does not consume receipt scans.
What does a private instance cost?
It is quoted per engagement. A private instance is a dedicated deployment SimpleLoonie sets up and runs for one organisation, against a database and an AI provider key you own, so the price depends on the region, your volume and what the agreement has to cover. It is not a plan tier you can self-serve.
How does the Google Drive Auto-Import add-on work?
For CA$4.99 a month on Growth and Business plans, SimpleLoonie connects to a designated folder in your Google Drive, automatically imports and extracts new receipts in the background, and organizes processed files into an archive subfolder.
Can I cancel or export my data?
Yes to both, and export is not gated behind cancellation. Transactions and extracted fields export to Excel or CSV, and the receipt images are yours to download. The CRA expects six years of records, which is longer than most software relationships, so being able to leave with everything is the point.
